Hilton San Diego Bayfront (Convention Center)
Client: Hensel Phelps Construction

One of the newest additions to San Diego’s bayfront skyline is the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. Situated next to the Convention Center, which hosts more than 200 events a year, and PETCO Park, the official home of the San Diego Padres, the 30-story hotel offers 1,190 rooms for attendees to both venues as well as downtown San Diego.

While still under construction, a natural gas explosion at the hotel damaged the first 11 floors. Fortunately, the concrete structure of the building was not damaged, however, Casper Company was brought in to demolish and remove what was damaged. Averaging 30 workers on site at a time, the Casper team removed drywall, studs, framing, windows and stucco with the help of San Diego-local Brewer Crane. More extensive damage was caused to the HVAC ductwork, which runs the full 30 floors of the building in the stairwell. Casper Company removed all of the ductwork for replacement.
