Ivy Hotel
Client: Krump Construction

Formerly The Maryland Hotel, The Ivy is one of San Diego’s newest boutique hotels. As with other San Diego boutique hotels, the Ivy is emerging from an historic 1914-era building; however, the owner chose to completely gut the structure—including the removal of 19 weight-bearing columns—to make way for a nightclub, boardrooms and suites. Casper crews carefully demolished interior historic elements for salvage, performed hazardous-materials abatement of soil in the basement, removed the roof for a new pool, excavated for utilities and completed structural demolition for seismic upgrades and the hotel’s new amenities. This difficult project required extensive coordination among trades to punch a hole from the street 16 feet into the building’s basement to crane in equipment for the excavation.
