San Diego Convention Center
Client: Turner Construction

During a renovation of the center’s decorative outdoor patio areas, Casper crews removed 35,000 sf of concrete deck and insulation in three 5-day phases to avoid disrupting the Center’s many conventions. The challenge on this project was not in cutting up the concrete, but in getting it out. For general safety and to avoid pedestrian areas, the concrete was dice-cut into four-foot squares and lowered down the freight elevator. The materials in the chunks—concrete, high-density foam insulation and steel rebar—were separated for recycling then hauled off site by truck to reach recycling centers during operating hours.
